Physical Education Professional Development Institute - Assessment in Physical Education

Description Assessment concepts and characteristics of authentic assessment in physical education will be presented. Additionally, developing checklists and rubrics to meet your K-12 needs will be discussed, as well as suggestions and examples to encourage more Authentic Assessment in PE. Balancing quality measurement with practicality will be emphasized. Student learning is improved when purposes, types and methods of assessments are aligned and embedded into program, curricular and instructional design. With appropriate, well-designed and purposeful assessment, students are better able to understand leaning expectations, critical thinking is promoted, and outcomes of the learning process are more relevant, meaningful and applicable to healthy and active lifestyles.
 
Objectives As a result of taking part in this workshop, participants will:
  • understand the rationale and methodology for assessment of student learning and the role of assessment in effective teaching.
  • become familiar with the range of assessments applicable to the discipline (i.e. traditional, alternative, performance-based, authentic)
