EASTCONN Science Council Meeting 2009-2010

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Description Today's program will include demonstrations of ARIES earth/space curriculum by Don Robb and sample lessons using Charlesbridge published books presented by EASTCONN Science Cadre staff developers. By completing a brief survey, participants will be eligible for a drawing to receive a free book. Don Robb is a local author of children's history books and representative of Charlesbridge Publishing, located in Boston, MA. He has written several books including: Hail to the Chief: the American Presidency; Ox, House, Stick: History of Our Alphabet and This is America. Charlesbridge is a publisher of high-quality books for children, with a goal of creating lifelong readers and learners. Their books encourage reading and discovery in the classroom, library and at home. Charlesbridge also publishes ARIES, a research-based physical and earth/space science program developed at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. ARIES is highly successful in helping grades 3-2 students build a deeper understanding of science topics by formulating questions, making predictions and justifying their ideas using hands-on inquiry lessons. We hope you will join us for this demonstration of the science trade books and curriculum materials published by Charlesbridge. The Science Council is open to all teachers, administrators, and anyone interested in science education in Connecticut. If you have additional questions regarding this event, please contact Nancy Magnani at nmagnani@eastconn.org.
